"Some gifts come with strings attached!"
SOME GIFTS
The ribbons on my presents feel like string
The presents and their wrappings are well-matched
Some come with instructions that I’d better follow well
Some gifts come with strings attached!
Got a painting from my uncle
Told me “Hang it there!”
Scissors from my aunt
Who suggested “Cut your hair!”
Got a wrist watch from my sister
She said “It cost alot,
And I’ll kill you if you lose it,
So you better not!”
Got candy from my brother
Who said “You have to share!”
My cousin gave me incense
Said “Purify the air!”
Grandma got me a new phone
Said “Call me everyday!”
Mom bought me a new Bible
Said “You better pray!”
Cho: Some gifts come with strings attached!
Sometimes hidden messages are really hard to catch
Some gifts come with strings attached
How do you be honest, when somebody does that?
Here’s what I say, ...
I don’t want to hurt your feelings
I know you’re very kind
But I can’t accept your gift
With what you had in mind.
'Cause what’s the point of giving
If you never let it go?
A gift wrapped in expectations,
Is about control!
Some folks who wanna help us
With the lives we’re livin',
Don’t understand it’s not the "gift"
It’s the way the gift is given.
Some gifts come with strings attached!
Sometimes hidden messages are really hard to catch
Some gifts come with strings attached
Some gifts just come, ... with strings attached!
