GROW IT AT HOME
Intro:
Chorus A: We eat up the world when we gobble our food
’Cause it comes from all over, and though it tastes good
Let’s think about where our meals come from
If we eat up the world, ... we got “no place like home”
If we eat up the world, ... we got “no place like home”
Chorus: Grow it at home, grow it at home
We won’t eat up the world ’cause we grow it at home (Repeat)
Our turkey grew up on a farm down South
Grapes from Chile taste great in my mouth!
Beans from France, eggplant from Japan
The mustard is English and so is the jam
Tomatoes from Mexico, Panama yams
Shrimp in our gumbo, came from Thailand
Potatoes from Canada, gravy from Spain
Peruvian onions and lobsters from Maine
It’s all pretty neat, but still, if we could
Let’s grow our own, then we’d know it’s good
Pick when it’s ripe, not unripe and green
We can eat right away, and we know that it’s clean
And clear from the poisons the big growers use
To kill bugs and critters who eat this stuff too
We know that our onions come out of our ground
And the eggs from our chickens are the best eggs around
Chorus
The world needs us all to cut back I think
So the carbon and water footprint can shrink
No gas for trucks or airplanes that fly it
No cardboard, no plastic, I’d sure like to try it!
Pay less for storage, for refrigeration
Less packing, less stacking, and less taxation!
No preservatives, no more processing please!
From garden, to basket, to kitchen to me!
Chorus & Instrumental Chorus
When we cut out long distance food distribution
We use less energy, have less pollution!
We’re more sustainable, locally grown
N’we get to know neighbors who grow stuff at home
Then every kid knows where the food comes from
’Cause they plant it and weed it and when harvest comes
If somebody asks, “How does your garden grow?”
Well, they answer “Just great!” - ’cause every kid knows,
Chorus B: We won’t eat up the world when we gobble our food
’Cause it comes from right here! And it tastes so good!
We care about where our meals come from
We won’t eat up the world, ... ’cause we grow it at home
Chorus (2x) – then repeat last line (2x)
