Peter Alsop's Ebenezer's Make Over - A Musical For Kids of All Ages

Dr. Peter Alsop mixes powerful songs from the feminist men’s and women’s movements with elements of a live concert and serious dramatic theater in his own engaging style, educating people with humor while they’re not looking!

The feature length video of EBENEZER’S MAKE OVER is a delightful :80 minutes based on Charles Dickens “Christmas Carol” story blended with 20 new and classic movement songs written by Peter and his friends Holly Near, Geof Morgan, Charlie Murphy, Fred Small, Joe Jencks, Romanovsky & Phillips, and others, performed by 23 actors and musicians.

As a close-minded college dean, Ebenezer Scrooge refuses to let the college's star basketball player ‘Not-So-Tiny Tim’ bring a chapter of a national men’s organization onto campus. That night Jacob Marley’s ghost visits Scrooge, warning him that three spirits will come to visit him. The first Spirit takes Scrooge back to his childhood to see where his sexist, racist attitudes were formed. The second Spirit opens Scrooge's eyes to the “sea of privilege” white men ‘swim in’, and the third Spirit guides Scrooge into the future for a glimpse of what the world will look like if men don't change our gender-linked oppression that's ruining our planet.

The themes and topics laid out for Scrooge, (and the audience), create discussions about gender, homophobia, men’s relationship to war, work, our fathers, the women in our lives and each other.  Songs such as ‘It's Only A Wee-Wee, (So What’s The Big Deal?)’, ‘Men Are Good’, ‘Let The Woman In You Come Through’, ‘You Ain't Been Doin' Nothin' If They Haven't Called You Gay!’, ‘Burning Times’, ‘Womb Envy’, ‘Give Yourself A Hand’, ‘The Matador’, ‘It's My Penis’, and ‘Singing For Our Lives’ provide Scrooge with a wealth of nuances he had never considered.

‘Ebenezer’s Make Over’ is a great resource for teachers, therapists, parents and teens, counselors or how about an evening out with that “special man” in your life who has everything but a “raised consciousness”?  Enjoy!

“A Who’s Who of activist songwriters!  The continuity is clever, quite humorous!  A great collection of songs by a great assemblage of artists.”
Rich Warren, Sing out! Magazine, WFMT-Chicago
